Cognitive Impairments / Financial Planning in the Shadow of Dementia

Course Description and Objective:

More than 15 million Americans are caring for an individual living with Alzheimer’s or another type of dementia. As a caregiver or family member, you may likely manage your loved one’s finances. This course will cover the five-topic financial management framework recommended by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) AgeLab: assets, income and insurance, banking administration, and care management. We will also cover the three stages of decline, the ten stress symptoms, as well as the circle of resources available to you during this difficult and stressful time.

In addition, we will discuss the overall landscape of Long-Term Care, regardless of the cause. We will explore the financial impact of mental and physical limitations and how to cope with delicate, yet urgent financial matters at such a difficult time. An elder care attorney will be present to answer any questions you may have.
